"Together for the journey…”

Novena’s story starts in Yellow Springs, Ohio where Bassist Jennifer Taylor was enjoying the famed Yellow Springs Street Fair when she recognized local singer-songwriter Emma Lee Woodruff busking on the sidewalk.

Aware of a personal tragedy that Emma had recently experienced, and no stranger to sudden loss herself, Jennifer offered to join Emma in musical companionship in an effort to let Emma know that she was not alone in her grief. That gesture of friendship eventually led the duo to form Novena.

Novena was founded as a vehicle to provide tonal layers to Emma’s original country and folk songs. Woodruff documents the powerful impact that friendship had in helping her overcome her grief. Novenas tracks are enhanced by soaring vocal harmonies and heartfelt lyrics, that share Woodruff’s deep personal story of loss, healing, friendship, recovery and growth.

This is reflected in the sequence of Our Unfailing Novena; a story from the beginning til the present.
