THE REPEATING ARMS

Higher Than Lonesome (2021)

Bio

A new era of acoustic music has dawned

and The Repeating Arms are beaming across the horizon, forging a new frontier from deep roots. It’s just in time as well. That is, due time to eschew the established conventions of traditional bluegrass, “new grass”, alt-county, and modern folk, and while ‘The Arms’ could easily be associated with any of the aforementioned, it would really be a disservice. They’re a rock and roll band equipped with the tools of a bluegrass outfit, a broad musical skill set, and the song sensibility of the most applauded writers of their generation. It’s a sound that really comes together on Higher than Lonesome, the long awaited follow-up to their decidedly grassy first full-length Blackberry Winter.

Higher than Lonesome retains the live-in-the-studio energy captured previously, but ventures into more elaborate writing and arranging. The addition of John Lardinois on fiddle/violin has invited incredibly engaging interplay with longtime mandolin player Brian Spirk and founding member Max Nunery on banjo. Lead singer Harold Hensley continues a winning streak of powerful vocal performances that would make most hair metal vocalists sheepish, and when he trades lines with Nunery’s honed, grassy croon, we understand the chemistry that drives the core of this band. It’s bottled here on Higher than Lonesome and provided for your benefit courtesy of us at Magnaphone Records. Please enjoy!
